A Monster Birthday Party

The monster party was pretty fun; however, it had been planned with the deck and backyard as a venue but we woke up to thunderstorms and resorted to cramming everyone inside our small house. Still, there was a lot of monster cuteness and some good food, so I think everyone had fun.

I tried really hard to not do goody bags because they’re usually a huge waste of time, money, and effort. But, I just couldn’t get away from buying a tiny bit of useless crap, more for myself than for anyone else. And, to make it a little more fun, I set up a table where all the kids could decorate their own monster sack and fill it with their choice of goodies.

Since it was very apparent that we were going to be stuck inside for the festivities, I whipped up a little felt ‘pin-the-eyeball-on-the-monster’ game that turned out to be the cutest last-minute decoration and the kids had fun playing.

Pretty much the only other cute extra thing I did was to make monster eyeball t-shirts for each of the girls to wear for the party. Surprisingly they both were happy to wear them the whole time, even the oldest who doesn’t get excited about wearing anything but dresses these days. (I think she only wore it because it was pink and she was wearing a skirt too, otherwise, it would have been a no-go.)

…look at that perfect little angel…hands folded in her lap… (if they don’t sit that way they get spanked – just kidding!)

It’s nice that Carl can finally get close to the girls without fearing for his life. He’s probably sleeping here with one eye open a slit just in case though.

The cake was by our ever faithful ‘cake lady’, who I wish had a website that I could link to. She’s the best and always makes whatever I want and the best part is that her cakes taste really really good. Everyone always wants more and we never order a big enough one. When was the last time you went to a birthday party and actually wanted seconds on cake? It’s really good.

At the end, the goody bag table had been well loved…

and guests parted with cute little Hershey’s bars in honor of the birthday girl.

Good stuff.
